In cases when the necessity for absence is known in advance, the student should bring a written request or make a direct contact from the parent/guardian to The School on the Excused absence form. Requests should state the time the student needs to be dismissed as well as expected time of return. No work will be sent home in advance. Students are encouraged to continue reading books that have been assigned while absent. Students will be given the same amount of days absent to make- up missed work (one day absent, one day after return for missed work) In the cases of projects, students will be expected to turn the project in on the date of return. The teacher will work closely with the student and parent to create a plan.- The Family Handbook

Reasons for an Excused Absence

• Family Obligation requiring travel or absence- weddings, funerals, reunions
• Organized Extracurricular Activity- soccer, dance, baseball, FFA, Rodeo etc.
• Family Vacation- one extended vacation per year will be excused
• Hunting Trip- two short trips per year may be excused 

• One day to go someplace like Denver/Rapid City
• Staying home because feeling ill
• One day of hunting,  when extending a weekend

Excused Absences are also given when a doctor’s note is provided 

I am requesting that my student(s) be excused on these dates. I understand that I will work closely with the teacher to help my student(s) get caught up on work.
